From Jackie to Flaca

er being in a bad car accident caused by someone she called a friend and having thousands of dollars stole from her by a music producer, Jackie Cruz is now an actress on Orange is the New Black and has been producing a short film called Hang Fire. Though she was in situations that were not ideal, Cruz worked fairly hard and was very persistent to reach her goals.

After moving from home to live with a friend when she was seventeen, Cruz was in a car accident that left her in a coma for 72 hours was placed in a children's rehabilitation center. She said that while she was in rehab, she had given up on her dreams of becoming an actress because she didn't feel as beautiful as before. Her hair was cut after the accident. She was eventually encouraged to try again by another kid in the center

Cruz decided to go to the gym and do more after rehab "and I went back to Hollywood with my mullet and my six pack." She was persistent with her agent while in Hollywood. Her agent had told her she was too old for him to represent her, then she changed her focus to music and followed a producer to Florida. This producer stole ten thousand dollars from her.

Another person who produced music gave her advice and she followed him to New York, where she worked as a waitress at Lava. While at Lava, she was able to meet someone who would be her inspiration for Flaca, her character on Orange is The New Black, and also audition and get her role as Flaca.

After booking her role as Flaca, Cruz eventually had to leave Lava and also started a small production company where she is producing a short film called Hang Fire.
