The United States Postal Service has paid tribute to World War I veterans by issuing a stamp.

A dedication was made on Friday, July 27 of a stamp meant to display patriotism and courage. The unveiling showed that the forever stamp reads, “World War I: Turning the Tide.”

“I am grateful that the United States Postal Service (USPS) has chosen to honor our WWI veterans,” said Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II. “The USPS has a history of memorializing significant historical events, and now we can add the WWI stamp to its impressive collection.”

Cleaver began his advocacy for the memorial stamp in 2015, even writing letters to the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.

“This stamp will be a reminder of those who served and gave so much during WWI,” Cleaver said.

Millions of men and women served in WWI “in our pursuit for peace,” according to Heather Frierson, Director of Communications for Emanuel Cleaver.

According to Frierson, “these commemorative stamps will serve as a reminder of those sacrifices.”
